2018 Season - Week 18
BUMS Wildcard Weekend
For the fifth time in six years the “Biggest upset in Sport” has happened again as the #16 seed defeats the #1 seed. Stampy beat Johnnie 27-15 and so Johnnie’s bid to do the Double for the third time is over in the first round. There were two other Cup Upsets as the #2 seed also went down, Marcus losing 13-27 to 15 seed George and Cheryl (5) lost to Ron (12) 22-24. They were not the only Cooper’s to lose as all four were knocked out in the first round for the first time since 2011, Mark defeating Gareth 24-21 and Andy H holding on over Aaron 19-17. The highest scoring game of the weekend was AP over Alex 32-25, which was tough for Alex who was outscored by only 3 of the other 15 owners. The highest seeds remaining are #3 Daz (who defeated Wayne 24-18) and #4 Craig (who beat Dave G 23-19). So the Divisional round is Daz (3) v David S (16), Craig (4) takes on George (15), AP (6) plays Ron (12) and Mark (7) hosts Andy H (8). Teams to me by 10pm Friday so we can sort out swaps. This is a strict deadline, miss it and you are out, sorry.
Best Wildcard Team
For $4.5m you could have scored 54 points, so why didn’t you choose QB Dak Prescott ($1m-9pts), Kicker Michael Badgley ($1m-15pts) and WR Michael Crabtree ($1m – 12pts) plus 3 any of TE Dallas Goedert, WR Dontrelle Inman, WR Keke Coutee or WR Michael Gallup who cost $0.5m for their TD. At QB Russell Wilson also scored 9 points but cost $2m and there were 6 other outfield players who scored a TD but all cost more than $0.5m. Congratulations to AP who was our highest scorer with 32 points.
NFL Wildcard Weekend
Doink…Doink…Silence.
And with that the Wildcard round was over. For Cody Parkey to hit not just the post with his game winning attempt but the crossbar as well before the ball bounced back towards him was a very cruel fate. He had already hit the post 5 times in the regular season. Interestingly as a high school kicker he used to practice his accuracy by kicking the ball at a post! And so the Bears were shocked as Saint Nick did it again for the Eagles and he is now 7-0 in elimination games over the last two seasons. Andrew Luck couldn’t throw a full size ball into the summer after his surgery but he threw all over Houston in the first half as the Colts completely dominated the Texans winning 21-7. Seattle played Dallas close but the Cowboys were the only home team to win, 24-22 while the Chargers D completely shut down Baltimore through 3 quarters and held on to win 23-17. And so in the AFC Divisional round it’s Indianapolis Colts (#6) @ Kansas City (#1) & LA Chargers (#5) @ New England Patriots (#2) while in the NFC it’s Philadelphia Eagles (#6) @ New Orleans Saints (#1) and Dallas Cowboys (#4) @ LA Rams (#2).
